Kom Malavixai, 91, of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, October 31, 2024, at her home.
Kom was born on May 5, 1933, in Oue Boun, Thailand, the daughter of Kola and Suda Sylavong. Kom was united in marriage to Bounxom Malavixai in 1979, in Thailand. In 1990, the couple moved to the United States. She was a member of the Lao Friendship Association of Southeast Iowa. Kom enjoyed singing, dancing, and making her family happy. She was very active in temple activities, she especially loved to knit flags for the temple.
Kom is survived by her children, Samphoune Pontong of Thailand, Somsack Sylavong of Milwaukee, WI, Somphet Vongphouthone of Peoria, IL, Somphone Sylavong of Mount Pleasant and Phouthone Sylavong of Des Moines. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Kom was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bounxom in 2009.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. at Olson-Powell Chapel & Crematory. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Olson-Powell Chapel & Crematory is caring for Kom and her family.
