Kenneth W. Hatch, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.Open visitation will be held from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery with full military rites. A memorial has been established for Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born October 18, 1921, in Lee County, IA, Kenneth William was the son of Arthur and Everna Alter Hatch. He was a graduate of Donnellson High School. On June 15, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served proudly for four years in the South Pacific Theatre as an aviation mechanic. At the time of his discharge, on November 22, 1945, he had obtained the rank of Tech Sergeant. Following his discharge, Ken attended Iowa Wesleyan College, was a member of Phi Delta Theta, and has continued to support the college for many years. From 1947 until 1952 he served in the United States Marine Reserves. On January 11, 1948, Ken married Louise Schuerman in Mt. Pleasant. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1995. As a youngster Ken learned the farming trade on the family farm. He joined his father-in-law in the cattle and farming business at the time of his marriage. He continued as a farmer and cattleman, working alongside his son, Mike, until he was 93 years old. Known to be a hard worker, Ken put family first and still found time to serve his community. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He served on the Henry County Savings Bank Board of Directors for many years. He was a member of Evening Rotary, a 70-year American Legion-Bob Tribby Post #58 member, a Moose Lodge #1003 member, and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge #8 A.F. and A.M. Kenny was named the 2002 Henry County Cattleman of the Year and the 2002 Old Thresher of the Year. He was a member of Country Club on the River and the R.O.M.E.O.'s. Kenny attended many Marine Reunions all over the United States and participated in a 2011 Honor Flight. Ken is survived by a son Mike Hatch of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and a daughter, Diane (Steve) Klimstra of Germantown Hills, IL, and two step grandchildren, along with a special friend, Maryln Strohman of Mt. Pleasant, IA. Along with his wife, Louise, Ken was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Robert, and Russell Hatch. Cemetery Details Forest Home Cemetery South Walnut Street Mt.
