Kenneth Phil Bishop, age 69, died at his home near Wellman on Monday, July 29, 2013. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Wellman. Pastor Mark Larson will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman. Burial with military rites will be in the Wellman Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Wellman Ambulance and Washington County Hospice. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Kenneth Phil Bishop was born on May 3, 1944, in Washington, Iowa, the son of L. Olen (Pete) and Ferne Eleanor Oldfield Bishop. He grew up in the Wellman community and graduated from Mid Prairie High School in 1962. Kenneth served in the US Army from 1964 to 1967. On August 27, 1967, he was united in marriage to Claudia Shaver in Kalona. He farmed, was a paramedic for Washington County and the Wellman Ambulance, was a Reserve Deputy for Washington County and worked as an Emergency Technician at the Washington County Hospital. Kenneth was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Wellman American Legion and the Washington VFW. Kenneth enjoyed fishing, riding his John Deere Gator and bulldozing. He is survived by his wife Claudia; three daughters: Terri (Mark) Adkins of North Manchester, IN; Jennifer (Tom) Engesser of Blue Earth, MN; Kristen (Joe) Thomas of Wellman, IA; seven grandchildren: Kelsey Engesser, Colin Engesser, Callie Adkins, Kyle Engesser, Carissa Engesser, Cooper Thomas and Parker Thomas; a brother Dennis (Kathy) Bishop of Olathe, KS and a sister Sandra Schauf of Wellman, IA. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.
