Kenneth L. Reynolds, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Henry County Health Center Emergency Room.Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Monday, December 7, 2015, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joseph Phung officiating. Burial, with Military Rites accorded by the Henry County Honor Guard, will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. A memorial has been established to St. Jude Children's Hospital. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.Born June 1, 1944, in Lawton, OK, Kenneth Loyd was the son of Raymond Etheridge and Kathryn (Corbin) Reynolds. At the age of 17 he joined the Army and completed his education during his service. On June 5, 1965, he married Ellen Elizabeth Lampe at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, IA. For several years Ken was employed at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He then attended Kirkwood Community College and became a dental lab technician. Following his training he opened a dental lab in his home and used his skills until the last few years. Ken was an avid fisherman who especially liked to catch catfish. He had a large bird collection and built a barn to raise pigeons, ducks, pheasants, and chickens. He would show his birds at state fairs and other contests. Interacting with his children, grandchildren, and their activities was important to Ken. He was active in the Henry County Rescue Squad and the Henry County Coin Club.Along with his loving wife, Ellen, of 50 years, Ken is survived by a son Jeff (Shannon) Reynolds of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter, Julie Randall of Farmington, MN; and two sisters Dorothy (Gus) Gwilt and Rita Staff, both of Michigan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason Reynolds, Brendon Reynolds, Alycia (Josh) Eakins, and Madisyn Reynolds, and a great-grandson, Blane Eakins. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons, Kevin and Christopher Reynolds; a brother, Raymond "Buddy" Reynolds; and a sister, Gloria Harris.
