SIGOURNEY-Kenneth Howard Kiefer, age 85, died peacefully at Williamsburg Villas in Knoxville, Tennessee on August 30, 2010. He was born near Talleyrand, Iowa, on December 27, 1924. After serving in the U.S. Navy as a gunner during World War II, he returned to Iowa and wed Doris Adams. He farmed many years before becoming a farm equipment sales manager for International Harvester until his retirement in 1989. Kenneth moved to Maryville, Tennessee after retiring to be close to his family. Throughout his life, he loved dogs, horses, hunting and conversation. He will always be remembered for his great storytelling. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Scott Dahms of Westerville, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Steve and Sue Kiefer of Maryville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jeff Dahms and wife Nikki, Kevin Dahms, Kelly Saalwachter and husband John and Nicholas Kiefer; great grandchildren, Michael Dahms, Shelby and Taylor Dahms and sisters, Virginia Ott of Harper, Lillian Bosley of St. Charles, Missouri, Vivian Stein of Hedrick and Darlene Ruggles of Thornburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Katherine Kiefer, sister, Genevieve Ott and brother, Richard Kiefer. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 860 Louisville Road, Alcoa, TN 37701.
