Keith Thomas, 81, of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly of Winfield, died Sunday, August 25, 2024, at his home in Fort Collins.
Keith was born February 17, 1943, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Howard and Lucille (McClure) Thomas. His family moved to Richland, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated from Richland High School. Keith continued his education at Northeast Missouri State University receiving his Bachelors and Masters in Music Education. On June 12, 1971, Keith was united in marriage to Michele “Mike” Smith in Mount Pleasant. He was an Instrumental Music Instructor, teaching K-12 in Fremont, Olds, Mount Pleasant, and Boone school districts before moving to St. Louis, where he taught 22 years in the Parkway School District. After retiring, the couple moved to Arkansas for two years, followed by a return to Winfield for 12 years, before settling in Fort Collins, Colorado. Keith was a member of the Methodist Church. He loved music and was an avid sports fan. Keith also enjoyed playing golf and riding his bike. He loved spending time with his family, and adored his grandchildren.
Keith is survived by his wife Michele “Mike” of Fort Collins, CO; son Ben (Sarah) Thomas of Fort Collins, CO; two grandchildren: Toren and Witaker; father-in-law William Smith of Mount Pleasant; four sisters in law and two brothers in law Nancy Beck, Chris (Larry) Mihalevich, Susie Clark, Teresa (David) Kennedy, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev Court Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Mount Pleasant Public Library. The Olson-Powell Chapel & Crematory is caring for Keith and his family.
