Williamsburg- Kathryn Mary Meissner, was born April 9, 1914, near Williamsburg, the daughter of Robert and Jane (Roberts) Roberts. She attended country school and in her earlier years assisted as a care giver to many local families. On September 10, 1938, she was united in marriage to William August Meissner. The union of their marriage, gave life to four children: Shirley, Jayne, Bill and Kenneth. They farmed together in York township before retiring to Williamsburg. For a number of years they became snow birds, traveling to south Florida as well as southern Texas. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. Kathryn, child of God passed from this life to the next, Friday, January 11, 2008, under the care of the Jasper County Hospice at the Skiff Medical Center, in Newton, after a brief illness. She lived 93 years, 9 months and 2 days. She is survived by 2 daughters: Shirley (Serge) Galli-Barrieau of Deming, NM and Jayne (Vern) Versteegh of Newton; 2 sons: Bill Meissner of Iowa City and Kenneth Meissner of Storm Lake; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; as well as special friends that cared for her and brought her joy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 sisters: Nesta Bauer and Ellen Roberts; and 2 brothers: William Roberts and Emrys Roberts. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home. Memorials are for the First Presbyterian Church or the Skiff Medical Center, Monarch Wing Hospice.
