Karl E. Oviatt, 93 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Dallas, TX, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at his home. A memorial service will be held at the North Dallas Funeral Home in Farmers Branch, TX, on Saturday, February 24, 2007. The Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant is in charge of local arrangements. Born January 31, 1914, in Parker, ID, Karl was the son of Wilford and Birdie Carlson Oviatt. During World War II, Major Oviatt served in the Army Air Corps where he was the personal pilot for General Douglas MacArthur and General Richard Kerens Sutherland in the Philippine Islands. On July 4, 1943, he married Eleanor Weinheimar in New York. The couple met while she was employed as a stewardess and he was a pilot for American Airlines. Mr. Oviatt retired from American Airlines after 34 years of service. Survivors include a son Bruce (Jolene) Oviatt of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and one grandson Morgan Oviatt of Galveston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eleanor, three brothers, Leo, Cliff and Earl, and by a sister Phyllis.
