Karen Duncan, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, January 17, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastors Jerry and Virginia Knipe officiating. Inurnment will be in Bonaparte Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Bonaparte Cemetery Association. Born June 28, 1940 near Bonaparte, IA, Karen Lucile was the daughter of Percy and Mary (Johnson) Lowe. She graduated from Bonaparte High School. On August 29, 1958 she married Lawrence Duncan in Bonaparte. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2014. For 30 years, Karen worked as a bookkeeper for Packers Sanitation. She was an avid sports fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones basketball teams and the St. Louis Cardinals. She was a voracious reader of books. Favorite pastimes included taking long walks, visiting casinos and socializing with friends. Survivors include a daughter, Diane (Jerry Knipe) Duncan of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, Alan (Kelly) Duncan of Boone, IA; three grandchildren, Whitney, Nathan and Dylan Duncan; and a brother, Richard (Nancy) Lowe of Kansas City, MO. Preceding Karen in death are her parents; her husband, Lawrence; and a brother, Larry Lowe.
