June Verneal Pence was born June 29, 1924 in Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Hewitt and Delphia (Taylor) Karr. She graduated from high school in Des Moines in 1942. She served in the United States Navy from 1945-1946. On April 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to James E. Pence in Muscatine. They lived in the Wellman community where June worked at the Lewis Department Store for 12 years. In 1978 June moved to Kalona, where she worked at JW's Foods for almost 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary. June died on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a long illness at the age of 84 years. June is survived by 2 sons - Bill Pence of Ainsworth; Larry Pence of Cedar Rapids; 2 grandsons - Andy Pence of Aikens, South Carolina; Alan Pence of Marion; and a half sister - Joanne Redlinger of Wellman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on June 11, 1959, a brother L.W. Karr, and 2 sister's Marietta Augustine and Jeanette Booth.
A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice.
