June Beorkrem, 93, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in St. James, MN. Burial will take place in the English River Church of the Brethren Cemetery in South English, IA on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 1:30 pm. June Lillian (Blaylock) Beorkrem was born on June 6, 1914 to Lewis Morgan and Hattie (Sigafoose) Blaylock in What Cheer, Keokuk County, IA. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Cora and John Wenger from the age of 2 years. In 1932 she graduated from Kinross High School in Kinross, Iowa. In 1934 she married Harold Beorkrem in Cedar Rapids, IA. While living in Cedar Rapids, June was active in Camp Fire and at the First Lutheran Church. In 1947 they moved to Newton, IA where they operated Fortune Cleaners and Cozad Cleaners. June was active in the First Lutheran Church, the Ladies Kiwanis, the Soroptimist Club and the Newton Boating Club. She had been living in St. James, MN since 2001 and had been a resident of the Pleasant View Nursing Home since September 28, 2005. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Lou Beam of St. James, MN; granddaughers, Kimberly Beam and Kristen Beam both of Eagan, MN; six nephews and six nieces. June was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1992; parents; brothers, John and Jasper Brower; sister, Violet Wherry and son-in-law, William (Bill) Beam.
