Julia D. Foster, age 71, of Marengo, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023, at St. Luke’s Unity Point Hospice, in Cedar Rapids, after a courageous journey with small cell carcinoma. A memorial service will be held at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, in Marengo, with Rev. Joseph Blay officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2023, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to First United Methodist Church, Marengo, Marengo American Legion Auxiliary, Compass Memorial Hospital Foundation, and/or to the Friends of the Marengo Public Library.

Julia is survived by her loving family which includes, a brother Harry (Wendy) Foster; three sisters, Alice (Robert) Weber, Lori Foster (Dennis Ades) and Amy; several nieces and nephews; and a bonus family Loren Deetz, Terri Deetz and Sandra (Rick) Thorington. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother David and two sisters Martha Paul and Kristen Foster.

Julia was born November 7, 1951, in Marengo, the daughter of Harry S. and Dorothy (Casteel) Foster. She graduated in 1969 from Iowa Valley Community High School. Her post-secondary education includes a trades and industries diploma in Graphic Arts, an Associate of Applied Sciences degree, Communications and Media Technology Degree, an Associates degree in Applied Sciences, a Medical Assistant degree and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. Julia was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served as an Adult Sunday School Facilitator, was an officer of the United Methodist Women and also served on the Administrative Council.

Julia lived in Marengo her entire life and was active in the community also. She was a part of the Jaycee Ettes, the 1976 American Revolution Bicentennial Committee, Lions Club, Wandling-Wendel Unit 76 American Legion Auxiliary, the committee of the 125 th Marengo Celebration and Friends of the Marengo Public Library. She organized the Marengo 4 th of July parade for several years. Julia was employed at Marengo Publishing (MPC) (later owned by the Des Moines Register) as a graphics technician for nearly 40 years. After her separation from MPC, she held various jobs until taking the position as a Graphics Specialist for Our Town Publications, in Marengo. Of the many things Julia accomplished in life, she had also obtained her private pilots license. She owned an extensive glow-in-the-dark collection and enjoyed listening to the Beatles. But most of all, Julia loved being in the companionship of her loving family. Julia was a free spirit, her own person.
