Joyce Conrad, 84, of Wayland, IA, died Sunday, August 10, 2014, at the Parkview Home in Wayland. A visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m., on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church where the family will receive friends from 5 -7 p.m. that evening. Committal will be at 2 p.m., on Thursday, August 14, 2014, in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow the committal at 3 pm. at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Pam Gerig Unruh officiating. Born March 28, 1930 at the family home west of Trenton, IA, Joyce Elaine was the daughter of Joseph and Lydia (Wagler) Hirschy. She attended Elm Country School near Trenton and graduated from Wayland High School in 1948. On February 20, 1949, she married Edwin Daniel Conrad at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1974. After her husband passed, Joyce worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 35 years at Parkview Home in Wayland. Always a homemaker, she helped on the farm and tended to her family. Joyce was an active member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and belonged to the Mennonite Women Sewing Group. She loved going to Midwest Old Threshers where she spent many hours volunteering at the Church Turkey Grill. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Crowded Closet in Iowa City. Favorite hobbies included gardening, sewing, going to flea markets and was an avid Hawkeye fan. She was an avid baker and known for her homemade cinnamon rolls, stuffed peppers, and peppernuts. She enjoyed gospel music and loved listening to the Wissmann Family Singers when they performed at Old Threshers. Survivors include three sons, Gary (Maretta) Conrad of Wayland, IA, Robert (Karen) Conrad of Mahomet, IL and Doran (Cindy) Conrad of Wayland, IA; one daughter, Jodi (Allan) Wyse Woline of Mt. Pleasant, IA; eight grandchildren, Denise (James) Aldridge, Nathan (Janet) Conrad, Kaitlyn Conrad, Andrew Conrad, Kendra (Jace) Bailey, Camron (Leah) Conrad, Kelsey (Kendal) Swartzentruber and Kaleb Wyse; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Dareld Stauffer and Stan Liechty; and one sister-in-law, Hettie Conrad. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Edwin; five sisters, Edith Blosser, Lula Davies Swanson, Ila Lenagher, Freida Bachman and JoAnnita Stauffer; two brothers, Elwyn Hirschy and Duwaine Hirschy; and a son-in-law, Curtis Wyse.
