Joy Hayward, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit. Visitation will be on Friday, April 2, 2010, beginning after 12 noon at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Mt. Pleasant Little League. On-line condolences may be left at www.olsonpowell.com. The daughter of Elbert D. and Edith Landrum Denney, Carol Joy was born on October 29, 1926, in Burlington, IA. She was a graduate of Yarmouth High School and earned a business degree at Iowa Wesleyan College. On November 14, 1947, she married Bill Hayward at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He preceded Joy in death on December 11, 1980. Before retiring in 1993, Joy was employed as an associate for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District for 18 years. Joy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Joy loved children and was a foster parent to many children. She served as both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader when her children were young. She was a member of the West Side Mothers' Club, Henry County Health Center Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Quilt club. Joy was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in athletics and in later years, she enjoyed watching sports on television. Mrs. Hayward is survived by two daughters, Janet Hayward of Coralville, IA and Jayne (Jeff) Fuller of Phoenix, AZ and two sons, Harry (Ann) Hayward of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Brian (MiHui) Hayward of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Along with her loving husband, Bill, Joy was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Randall Hayward.
