Josephine Sutter, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, August 01, 2015 at Park Place Elder Care in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3rd at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 4th, at Sugar Creek Mennonite Churchwith Rev. Nathan Luitjens officiating. Interment will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, south of Wayland. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and Mennonite Mission Network. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born November 11, 1928 in Stronghurst, IL, Josephine Ellen was the daughter of Charles Olney and Vera Mae (Miller) Ring. She received her education throughout the United States as she traveled with her family from military base to military base. On November 15, 1945, she married Clarence Raymond Sutter in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1998. "Jo" was a devoted wife and homemaker. She worked as a medical assistant for a number of physicians. She followed her husband as he pastored churches in Peoria, IL, and Manson, Montea, Sutherland and Des Moines all in Iowa. The couple later served in Dayton, OH, East Peoria, IL and Lima, OH. Returning to Iowa, the Sutters also served churches in Burlington and Mt. Pleasant. Jo was active in all of the programs of the church, including teaching Sunday school, Bible School and directing church plays. She was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. While busy raising a family, Jo found time to be a den mother and followed all of her children's activities. She liked to camp and enjoyed all family outings. Jo often did a lot of sewing, made stuffed animals and nearly 100 quilts. She was a member of the South Center Club, was an original member of the Rhythm Rockers, and loved to travel. Survivors include two daughters; Freda (Ken) Dunlavy of Altoona, IA and Rebecca (Jim) Brummitt of East Peoria, IL; four sons, Charles (Janet) Sutter of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Jerry Sutter of Stockport, IA, Pete (Rita) Sutter of Apple Creek, OH and Dan (Cheryl) Sutter of Pekin, IL; 22 grand- children; 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Preceding Jo in death were her parents; her husband; a daughter, Linda Jo Troyer; a daughter-in-law, Lynette Sutter; a brother, Richard Charles Ring; and a sister, Gwendolyn Sue Perry.
