Joseph Robert O'Rourke was born on July 7, 1924, near Keswick Iowa, the son of William F. and Clara E.(Kelly) O'Rourke. He graduated from Keswick High School in 1942. Joe Served with the U.S. Army for 18 months during WWII. He was united in marriage to Anne M. Sieren on November 28, 1946 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Clear Creek. They lived in Keota 1 year before moving to the farm near North English. They moved into North English in 1980 when he retired.. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His love was his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona, woodworking, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Joe died following a brief illness at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA on Tuesday August 22, 2006. He lived 82 years, 1 month and 15 days. He is survived by his wife Anne O'Rourke of North English: 4 children: Joanne ( Jerry) Broadus of Rockford, IL; Bob (Marty) O'Rourke of North English, IA; Angie (Gregg) Hartwig of Iowa City, IA; and Tom (Maggie) O'Rourke of Earlham, IA; 10 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; and a sister in law Theresa O'Rourke. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 2 daughters Carolyn O'Rourke and Margaret O'Rourke; a granddaughter Katelyn O'Rourke a sister Clarrita Lillis, and brothers Francis and Hugh O'Rourke. A Celebration Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English with Fr. Pat Lumsden officiating. Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home in North English on Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in the Armah Cemetery near North English.
