South English- Joseph Robert Chapman was born April 1, 1955 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Clifford Darrell & Ada B. (Robison) Chapman. He graduated from English Valley High School in 1973. Joe worked for White State Bank in South English and was a dispatcher for the Keokuk County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol. He lived most of his life in the English Valleys community until moving to Sigourney in 2014. He was a volunteer for the South English QRS and the North Keokuk Fire Department. He also served on the Belva Deer Planning Committee. Joe enjoyed fishing, golfing, diving for golf balls, driving around the countryside, going to "Egors", turkey hunting and singing at funerals and weddings. Joe died on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 62 years.
He is survived by his brothers: Wayne (Sheila) of Hills, Ronald (Sheila) of Melbourne FL,and Harold (Margaret) of Kalona; two sisters-in-law Velda Chapman of Cedar Rapids and Jean Burr of Lone Tree; numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents and two brothers James and Russell.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor Gerry Kahler will officiate. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4 - 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials are for the South English QRS or Belva Deer Park.
