SIGOURNEY-Joseph Wehr, age 92, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at his daughter's home in Kalona, following a brief illness. Joe was born November 19, 1912, in rural Sigourney, to Nick and Christina (Bensmiller) Wehr and attended Number 9 country school. On June 3, 1941, he married Wilma Anna Dumont at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. Joe lived and farmed near Sigourney until moving into town in 1977. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, Knights of Columbus, the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association Board, Farm Bureau for many years, Farm Service Board, Sigourney Fire Department Board, Sigourney School Board and was a Van Buren Township Trustee for many years, where he helped with elections and telephone service. Joe enjoyed farming, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, church activities and visiting. Survivors include three children: Mary Lewis and husband Richard of Des Moines, Robert Wehr and wife Paulette of Sigourney and Jeanette Gent and husband Hubert of Kalona; seven grandchildren: Kyle (Shelly) Lewis, Kari Lewis, Nick (Shana) Wehr, Jill (Rick) Landgrebe, Erik (Megan) Wehr, Brian (Amy) Peck and Renee Peck; six great granchildren: Joshua and Anna Lewis, Nolan Wehr, Alyssa and Austin Landgrebe and Corbin Peck; one sister: Caldona Kitzmann of Sigourney and one brother: Clement Wehr of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Wilma in 1973; infant son: Russell Joseph Wehr; granddaughter: Natasha Marie Wehr; great grandson: Jacob Lewis, triplet brother of Joshua and Anna, and two sisters: Clara Wehr and Marguerite Himler. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2005, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with Revs. Philip Ryan and Rich Adam officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2005, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney, where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County, the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association or the Sigourney Fire Department. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
