Joseph Francis Deutsch was born on June 24, 1951, to Francis and Marie (Freidhof) Deutsch, New Hampton. He graduated from New Hampton High School and attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa . On September 30, 1972, he married Margaret Hochstatter at St. Mary's Church, New Hampton. To this union, 3 children were born. Joe and Margaret were later divorced. Joe met Linda Tippie in Parnell and they were together 31 years, marrying in April 2013. They made their home in the Parnell and Millersburg communities before moving to North English in 2004. Joe's many talents included: woodworking, gardening, tree trimming, and painting He was generous with his talents and skills, and placed great value on sharing them with his friends, neighbors and community. Joe loved working on his computer, and enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, flea markets, camping and travel. He was a member of the Williamsburg Lions Club. Joe died on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 62 years. He is survived by his wife, Linda Tippie-Deutsch, North English. 3 children, Curtis Deutsch (Amy Hughes), Seattle, WA, Charis Deutsch, Portland, OR, and Ben Deutsch, Portland, OR, step-son Mark Schroeder of Convers, TX, 2 grandchildren, Zia and Silas Deutsch Hughes, Seattle, WA, step grandchildren Sammi (Michael) Chroe of Los Angeles, CA, Chandler and Nate Schroeder & step great-grandson Bryson Schroeder all of Navarre, FL, and siblings: Tom (Rosie) Deutsch, New Hampton, Bill Deutsch (Martha Davis), Decorah, Nancy Fanzen, New Hampton, and Neil (Pam) Deutsch, Urbandale. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and one great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Joseph donated his body to the University of Iowa for research.
