Joseph "Joe" Curfman, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away, Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. There will be a gathering of family and friends to share memories on Saturday, September 6th at 10:00 a.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Memorials have been established to the Great River Hospice. Born July 20, 1938, in Keokuk, IA, Joseph Edward was the son of Earl James and Lottie Louise (Spicer) Curfman. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Peter's High School in Keokuk, IA. He then attended Parson's College in Fairfield, IA and received his Bachelor's Degree. Joe began his working career as an elementary and high school teacher in the Iowa communities of Carroll, Storm Lake and Keokuk. He returned to Mt. Pleasant, and for 30 years, worked as a mental health worker at the Mental Health Institute. He retired from this position in 2000. An avid genealogist, Joe was able to trace his family tree back to the early 1700's. He was very knowledgeable on the computer. Joe was an avid photographer and served in that capacity for several weddings. He was raised in the Catholic Church and remained in that faith his entire life. Survivors include four brothers, Jim (Carolyn) Curfman of Malverne, NY, Charles Curfman of Amarillo, TX, Thomas (Margaret) Curfman of Charlotte, NC, and Stephen Dalcross; six nieces and nephews; and six great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; a brother, Robert Curfman; and a sister in infancy.
