Wellman-Jonathan D. McVay was September 15, 1977 in Winterset, Iowa, the son of Bobby Dale McVay and Betty Elizabeth Boatwright. He lived in Winterset in his early childhood and then moved to Wellman. JD attended Mid-Prairie High School. He worked in the construction field doing remodeling. JD enjoyed being outdoors, playing with lizzards and other animals, drawing and spending time with family and friends. JD died Friday, December 9, 2011 at his home in rural Wellman at the age of 34 years. He is survived by his parents: Betty & Tom McGaffey of Wellman, Bobby Dale McVay of Des Moines; a sister: Heather(Darren McConaghy) Wesenberg of Wellman; a half sister: Hillary Snyder of Des Moines; three brothers: Justin (Angie) McGaffey of Cedar Rapids, John (Deb Hill) McGaffey of Wellman and Jermey Snyder of Des Moines; two grandparents: Sue McVay of Des Moines and Walt Boatwright of Winterset; four nieces and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Mary Boatwright and Ed McVay and an uncle Bill McVay. Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial is in the Wassonville Cemetery. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
