John Woline, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit, following a six year battle with lung cancer. He was a resident of Park Place for the past two months. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25th at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel, with Chaplain Jim Luder officiating. A private family interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory. Born November 24, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant, IA, John Marion Woline was the son of Albert F. and Ella D. (Anderson) Woline. He attended Mt. Pleasant Community High School where he served as president of his senior class and graduated in 1946. On March 28, 1952, he married Dorothy F. Ensminger at the Swedesburg Lutheran Church. During his youth, John was involved with 4-H, and served as a FFA president and the secretary of the Iowa State FFA. He was also involved in the Iowa Rural Youth Organization where he served as a president. John was an avid farmer in Henry County. He also worked for Rural Electric Cooperative. A licensed realtor, John was a member of the Southeast Iowa Association of Realtors and the National Board of Realtors. He also served in the Iowa National Guard. An avid full time hunter, fisherman and trapper, John enjoyed spending time outdoors. He raised horses, took part in the Salem Rodeo and was a member of the Salem Saddle Club. He and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed attending the Promenaders Square Dance Club. He attended the Oakland Mills Community Church and the Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four children, Lynda (Craig) Woline Long of Papillion, NE, Joyce (Patrick) Wathen of Ozark, MO, Julie Woline of Granger, IA and Johnny "Chip" Woline of Coralville, IA; four grandchildren, Trevor Long, Tara Long Martin, Daniel Wathen and Katie Wathen Azar; five great grandchildren, Elizabeth Long, Ali Martin, Chase Martin, Joe Azar III, and Delaney Azar; three siblings, Richard (Elnora) Woline of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Ruby (Charles) King of Milton, IA, and Elna Jean Woline of Mt. Pleasant, IA ; and a sister-in-law, Delna Woline of Geneva, IL. Preceding John in death are his parents; a brother, Harold Woline; and a sister, June Woline.
