John W. Sieren, age 92, of Keota, died Friday, November 13, 2009, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. John was born February 27, 1917, near Harper, to Peter N. and Anna Rose (Hammes) Sieren. He grew up, lived and farmed in the Harper community until moving to Keota in 1970. On May 3, 1939, John married Verda Adam at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. John also was a member of Farm Bureau while he was farming. John enjoyed gardening and his fruit trees. Survivors include his wife: Verda of Keota; four sons: LaVerne Sieren and wife Mildred of Keota, Gary Sieren and wife Judy of Washington, Leland Sieren and wife Shirley of Sigourney and John R. Sieren of Mesa, Arizona; one daughter: Mary Beth Cave and husband Mike of Harper; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one sister: Marjorie Williamson of Arlington, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Albert, Walter and Bernard and four sisters: Matilda Peiffer, Irene Greiner, Edna Horras and Alma Weber. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m.until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a Wake Service at 5:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established.
