Kalona-John Stanley Erb was born October 5, 1922 near Wellman, Iowa in Iowa County, the son of Truman and Anna Marie Brenneman Erb. He attended White Hall Schoo near Wellmanl. John was united in marriage to Nita Brenneman October 19, 1944 at the Lower Deer Creek Church rural Kalona, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Wellman area for more than 40 years, retiring in 1985. In 1988 they moved to their home in Kalona. John enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, fishing, traveling and his favorite hobby was working and spending time on the farm with his boys. John was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Church. John died Monday, September 12, 2005 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona after an extended illness at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife Nita; three sons: Robert (Linda) Erb of Billings, Montana, Gary (Sylvia) Erb and Terry (Debbie) Erb all of Wellman; five grandchildren; a sisters: Joann Huneryager of Stevens, Pennsylvania and a brother: Don Erb of Denver, Colorado. John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Marjorie Stutzman and Kathleen Kenagy. Celebration of life service will be 10:30 am Friday, September 16, 2005 at the Lower Deer Creek Church near Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson will officiate. Burial will precede the service at 9:00 am on Friday at the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Thursday, September 15, 2005 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Kalona where the family will present from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8pm.
