John L. Fisher was born March 11, 1920 in Spring Valley, Minnesota the son of Henry and Ella (Donahue) Fisher. He graduated from Perryville High School in 1939. He served in the Army during WWII and received a Bronze Star. On June 21, 1948 he was united in marriage to Opal Light at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway, Iowa. They have lived and farmed in the Wellman community for 60 years. John was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. John died on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City at the age of 92 years. John is survived by his wife Opal of Wellman; five children - Mary Kay Lowenberg of Huntsville, Missouri; Donna Fisher of San Antonio, Texas; Mark Fisher of San Diego, California; Robert Fisher of Wellman; Diane Christensen of Coralville; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters - Mary, Gladys, Loretta, Eunice; and two brothers - Vern and Ralph. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 7, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wellman with Rev David Brownfield PhD officiating. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where a Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM
