John J. Frank

John J. "Jack" Frank, 85 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, April 05, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A visitation will be held from 12-7 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9th, at the Church of the Open Bible, in Mt. Pleasant, with Pastor Mike Johnson and Pastor Garry Rosenau officiating. Interment will be in the Oakville Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Church of the Open Bible and the Oakville Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Born May 13, 1930, John Joseph was the son of John and Rose (Vierling) Frank in Oakville, Iowa. He graduated from Huron Consolidated School in 1949. John served 2 years in the United States Army, serving in the Medical Corps in Panama, during the Korean Conflict. He married Shirley Higdon, and the couple later divorced. On December 3, 1988, he married Ellen A. Carver, who survives. John was a longtime farmer. He later owned and operated the ROBO Car Wash in Mt. Pleasant, was a school bus driver for the Mt. Pleasant Community Schools, and a janitor for the Mt. Pleasant Middle School from which he retired in 1996. Favorite hobbies included bowling, playing golf and going on fishing trips to Canada. John enjoyed going to Gospel Sings, Wood Carving Shows and Square Dancing with his wife, Ellen. He took up woodcarving after his retirement and was a member of the Avenue of the Saints Wood Carvers. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. An active member of the Church of the Open Bible in Mt. Pleasant, John had served on the church board in the past. Survivors include his wife, Ellen, of Mt. Pleasant; 3 sons, Brad (Holly) Frank of Chatsworth, CA, Scott (Cheryl Johnson) Frank of Robins, IA, and Roger (Michelle) Frank of Lincoln, NE; 3 step-children, Linda (Garry) Rosenau of Faribault, MN, Judy (Reg) Williamson and Ronald Dean (Teresa) Carver all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; 5 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; a brother, Norman (Mary Ann) Frank of Oakville, IA; 3 sisters, Evelyn Schmidt of West Bend, IA, Ruth Pflederer of Tremont, IL and Betty Frank of Hendersonville, TN; a sister-in-law, Ann Frank of Waynesboro, VA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding John in death were his parents; grandparents; 3 brothers, Robert, Edward and Kenneth Frank; and a sister, Lillian Ramseyer.
