John Daniel Griess

Williamsburg-John Daniel Griess was born April 13, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Theo and BettyLou (Haas) Griess. He graduated from Amana High School in 1976 and attended the University of Iowa. John was united in marriage to Julie Lynn Van Cleave on August 8, 1981 at the Middle Amana Church. He was employed by Centro, Inc. in North Liberty. John enjoyed shopping, collecting, flea markets, golfing, hunting (geese & ducks), and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. John passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his home at the age of 59 years.

He is survived by his wife Julie of Williamsburg; a son: Connor of North Liberty; a brother: Lewis Griess of Cedar Rapids; two sisters: his twin, Joanne Griess and Marie Griess both of Amana and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Thaddeus Logan Griess.

Celebration of Life Visitation will be Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Amana Cemetery in Amana. Memorials are for Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center or Safe Haven of Iowa County.
