John D. Cannon, 66, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017, at his home in Brooklyn, Iowa. Services: 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2017, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Rev. John Reynolds officiating. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.

John is survived by his son John Ryan (Dana) Cannon, of Newton; a grandson Ethan Simmons; three sisters Mary (Mike) Cataldo, of Chaska, MN, Rita (Kent) Sauer, of Marion and Teresa (Phil) Kriegel, of Brooklyn; three brothers Joe (Pat) Cannon of Oceanside, CA, Jim (Donna) Cannon, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Tom Cannon of Urbana, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John David Cannon was born August 2, 1950, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Francis and Marjorie Ryan Cannon. The family moved to Atlantic while he was in grade school. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1968. Following graduation, John joined the U.S. Army National Guard. While living in Atlantic he did surveying for the State of Iowa also doing other construction jobs. In 1983 he returned to Brooklyn joining his father at their family plumbing business, C&R Plumbing. He was employed at Victor Manufacturing for several years. John enjoyed being a father and grandfather. Loved ones always enjoyed the humorous memories he created at family gatherings. He loved kids and was a kid magnet. He enjoyed dancing but his favorite pastime was golf.
