Johanna Van Trump, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA and formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E. Euclid, Arlington Heights, IL. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Memory Gardens Chapel. A memorial has been established to the Great River Hospice House, 1306 S. Washington Road, West Burlington, IA 52655. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, IA is assisting the family with the arrangements. Born May 7, 1928 in Ramming, Germany, Johanna was the daughter of Joseph Eugene and Johanna (Schiutzer) Baur. She attended school in Germany. She met Norman Van Trump while he was stationed in Germany. On November 16, 1953, the couple married in the St. Elizabeth Church, in Ulm, Germany. They moved to the United States in 1954 and resided most of their lives in the Chicago area. Johanna worked as a housekeeper and a cook. She was of the Catholic faith. Favorite hobbies included playing cards, bingo, and cooking. She loved being outdoors and gardening. Survivors include a sister, Hedwig Baur, of Langenau, Germany; a brother, Erwin (Anna Marie) Baur, of Jettingen-Scheppach, Germany; a sister-in-law, Maria Baur, of Langenau, Germany; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Norman; two brothers, August and Eugen; and a sister, Franchesca, in childhood.
