Joan Winkler, 77 of Mt Pleasant, IA, formerly of Bonaparte, IA, died Friday, August 30, 2013, at her home in Mt Pleasant surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born February 26, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa, and moved as a young child to Washington State. She lived most of her years in the Pacific Northwest before moving to Bonaparte, Iowa in 1983. She was the daughter of Jim and Margaret Bray Forshee. On June 22, 1957, she married Fred (Bud) Winkler in Everett, WA. She graduated from Everett High School and continued her education by attending IBM Technical College. She worked for the Federal Way School District as a transportation secretary for over 20 years. She also worked at Riverside Plastics for several years, retiring in 1996. Joan was a dedicated Seattle Seahawk, Mariner and Washington Huskies fan, and would occasionally root for the Iowa Hawkeyes, if they weren't playing the Iowa State Cyclones. She enjoyed reading, traveling through the United States to visit family, and she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years; two daughters, Kim Dorothy of Mt Pleasant, IA and, Karen (Mark) Mitchell, of Salem, IA; three sons, Steve (Teresa) Winkler, of Dash Point, WA, Stan (Shawna) Winkler, of Spokane, WA, Scott Winkler, of Bonaparte, IA; a sister, Peggy (Jack) Woodmansee, of Mt Vernon, WA. Joan is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews, and special friends who are dear to her heart; Jerry Dorothy of San Antonio, TX, and Ali Swigart of Bonaparte, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and twin sister. Joan will be missed by many and will remain forever in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Her body has been cremated. A memorial to Hospice of Central Iowa in her name will be established and condolences may be sent to: The Winkler Family at 405 W. Yocum Lane, Mt Pleasant, IA 52641. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt Pleasant assisted the family with the arrangements.
