Jimmy Duane Litwiller, Sr. was born August 3, 1935 in Wellman, Iowa the son of Jacob and Thelma (Eckerman) Litwiller. He graduated from Wellman High School in 1955. While in high school he joined the National Guard. On December 7, 1955 he married Jacqueline Miller in Wellman. In 1989 he married Lorraine Bengtson in Des Moines. Jimmy served in the Army for over 30 years, before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He currently owned and operated the A1 Motel in Des Moines and worked in the construction industry. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellman, the Eagle's Lodge and the VFW in Carlisle. He was very proud that he survived esophageal cancer for 14 years. Jimmy died on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 74 years. Jimmy is survived by 2 daughters - Jean Roop (Jon) of Ollie; Jaynie Bontrager (Sonny) of Wellman; daughter-in-law Mary Litwiller of Wellman; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 step granddaughter's Katlyn and Katrina Hicks whom Jimmy raised; 3 step children - Ronnie, Sherry, and Margaret; and a sister-in-law Nancy Litwiller of Chesapeake, Virginia. He was preceded in death by a son Jimmy Litwiller Jr on January 20, 2010; his wife Lorraine; his parents; and a brother William Litwiller. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Pastor Mark Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Powell Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established.
