Jerry Flynn

KEOTA-Jerome “Jerry” Flynn, also known as Sleepy, age 74, of Keota, died Saturday, August 10, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

 Jerry was born January 19, 1950, in Washington, the son of John and Anna (Malley) Flynn and graduated from Keota High School in 1968. On August 8, 1970, he married Nancy Jo Greiner at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. A lifelong Keota resident, Jerry was a Pressman and resident comedian at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory for 36 years until 2004. He and Nancy also owned the Roost from 1981 until 1987 and Jerry was a substitute rural mail carrier for 11 years until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and Keota Unlimited and was a former member of Lagos Acres Country Club, the Keota Jaycees and Knights of Columbus. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and in his later years, gardening and cooking were his passions.

 Survivors include his wife: Nancy Flynn of Keota; two sons: Chris (Tonya) Flynn of Birmingham and Jamie (Brenda) Flynn of Washington; five grandchildren: Cael Flynn, Kamden Nusbaum, Kadence Nusbaum, Sean Flynn and Hailey Flynn; two sisters: Mary Long of Mt. Vernon and Margaret “Peg” (Dave) Levy of Georgetown, Texas; brother: William (Shelly) Flynn of West Liberty and brother-in-law: Larry Palmer of Estero, Florida. Also surviving are four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law on Nancy’s side. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Sarah Palmer.

 Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Robert Lathrop presiding. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary’s Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the church.
