Jennifer Lynn Husmann was born June 28, 1977 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Ed Husmann and Hanni Frey. She was a 1995 graduate of Lincoln High School in Stanwood and earned her Associates Degree in Office Management and Dental Assisting from Kirkwood Community College. Jennifer resided in West Branch for a number of years and relocated to Wellman with her family two years ago. She was employed as a Dental Assistant at Melrose Dental Office in Iowa City. Jennifer loved being a mom. She spent countless hours in the bleachers and on the sidelines as the biggest fan for her children's sports teams and many activities. She also volunteered with Girl Scouts and Lime Creek Limelights 4-H. Jennifer died on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident north of Wellman. She was 34 years old. Jennifer is survived by her fiancé R.J. Collins of Wellman; her daughter Lyla Blake of Wellman; two step children - Madison Collins, Jalen Collins of Washington; her father Ed Husmann (Patricia) of Independence; her mother Hanni Hernandez (Steven) of Decorah; a sister Dawn Drahos (Matt) of Great Falls, Montana; and grandmother Elaine Husmann of Mechanicsville. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Ernest Husmann; and August and Irene Frey. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman and burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at the Powell Funeral Home. A Jennifer Husmann Memorial Fund has been established at Hills Bank in Wellman. The proceeds will be used to establish an education fund for her daughter Lyla. Contributions may be mailed to Jennifer Husmann Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 314, Wellman, IA 52356.
