HARPER-Jeanette Conrad, age 80, of Harper, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at her home following a long illness. Jeanette was born November 10, 1924, in Lafayette Township, Keokuk County, Iowa, to Francis J. and Myrtle (Brown) Striegel and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in 1942. On August 21, 1943, she married Alfred "Fritz" Conrad at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. The couple made their home in Harper, where Jeanette was a clerk for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1973. She also served as the treasurer of Harper. Jeanette was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Federated Women's Club for many years. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband: Alfred "Fritz" Conrad of Harper; six children: Gary and wife Pamela of Cedar Rapids, Carolyn Jacobs and husband Richard of Cedar Rapids, Douglas of Washington, Daniel of Washington, Richard and wife Dixie of Washington and Patrick and wife Sheri of Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 9+ great grandchildren and one sister: Millicent Elonich of Council Bluffs. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Henry Striegel and one sister: Mary Lawrence. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be an Altar and Rosary Society Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Keokuk County. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
