MOUNT PLEASANT - Janet Marie Corry Richardson, 90, of Mount Pleasant passed away Monday, May 10, 2021, at Park Place Elder Living where she was a resident for many years.
She was born October 6, 1930, in Hillsboro, Iowa, to Frank M Corry, Jr and Zenetta Storm Corry. She graduated from Keosauqua High School. On May 28, 1948, Janet was united in marriage to Charles Edwin Richardson in Keosauqua.
Janet worked part time as PRM Clerk for 16 years in the Bonaparte Iowa Post Office. During the flood in 1993, the post office was moved into her home for three months. She was a hostess and cashier at the Bonaparte Retreat and site manager for Bonaparte Senior Housing for several years.
She was a member of the Van Buren County Public Health Nursing Board, a member of the Van Buren Red Cross Board for over 25 years, and chairperson of the Bonaparte Red Cross Bloodmobile. She delivered meals to seniors and shut-ins, and was active in P.E.O. and TTT holding several offices for many years.
Janet is survived by a son, James (Gwen) Richardson, Mount Pleasant, IA; a daughter-in-law, Susan Richardson (Gary Finn), Blair, NE; granddaughters: Molly Richardson, Omaha, NE; Jill (Eric) Penne, Cedar Rapids, IA; Heidi (Corey) Richardson Farnum, Clarion, IA; Ellie (Trent) Richardson Vakiner, Blair, NE; grandsons: Matthew (Lindsey) Richardson, Mount Pleasant, IA; Corry (Holly) Richardson, Bonaparte, IA; Daniel (Sara) Johnson, Swisher, IA; Mark (Kerri) Johnson, Waverly, IA; and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles in 1992, a son, Charles Marvin, a grandson, Adam Richardson, and a sister, Shirley Bentzinger.
A private family service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant. There will be no visitation. As per Janet's request, her body has been cremated. A memorial fund has been established for Every Step Hospice and Park Place Elder Living. The Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel is caring for Janet and her family.
