Janet Gesine (Schmidt) Jenson was born April 26, 1939, to Arthur H. and Norma (Walter) Schmidt at home in Hilton Township, Iowa. She baptized on May 18, 1939, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy, Iowa. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and was confirmed at Trinity, April 19, 1953. Janet graduated from Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy on May 16th , 1957. She went on to study at the Paris Academy of Beauty in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated on June 3, 1958.

She met Jerry Jenson in the summer of 1966 at Armar Ballroom. They were united in marriage on December 3, 1966, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, Iowa, by Reverend Martin Sonntag. The couple relocated to Colorado in November 1969. Their daughter Kristin was born in April 1970. A year later, their son Kirk was born in April 1971. In addition to working as a beautician, Janet worked for the Jefferson County, Colorado School District as a kindergarten aid for over seven years, a group leader for daycare for five years, a bank teller for four years, a market research interviewer, and for the Picture Lady, where she loved it so much that she worked there for over 17 years. She also taught Sunday school and vacation bible school at church in Colorado.

Janet’s faith remained a pillar of comfort her entire life. Every day she read two chapters of the Bible, in addition to devotions, and the Portals of Prayer. Her faith was passed along to her children who were confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Lakewood, CO in 1985, and graduated from Denver Lutheran High School in 1989. Her daughter, Kristin, went on to become a Lutheran and Christian early education teacher and director. Her grandchildren went on to attend Lutheran and Christian schools.

Family was the second pillar of her life. She never missed an opportunity to speak with or visit her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her many stories of her family were told every chance she got.

Janet was a voracious reader, as well as enjoying knitting, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy was seeing her kids and grandkids grow into faithful Christians, as well as their many and various school activities. She passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Norma Schmidt; her sister, Eunice Goodwin, two brothers-in-law, Jack Goodwin and Keith Jenson, and her nephew Gaylord Langley.
