North English- Jane Millicent Knipfer was born November 17, 1938 the daughter of Ernest Newell and Alice Janora (White) Knipfer. She graduated from North English High School in 1957 then received her teaching certificate from Simpson College and later graduated from Coe College with her BS in education. Jane taught at Lone Tree Public School and Urbana Public School until retiring in 1978. Jane lived in the Vinton and Urbana area until moving back to North English in 1978. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, NEA, ISEA, local Union Busy Bee, and UNW. Jane enjoyed bird watching, plants, reading, music and scrap booking. Jane died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a lifetime battle with Lupus at the age of 76.
Jane is survived by three brothers: Ross (Carol) Knipfer of North English, Stanley (Donna) Knipfer of Keosauqua and Glenn (Dixie) Knipfer of North English, numerous nieces and nephews, an uncle Frank Knipfer of North English and a special friend Lila Slaymaker of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Marion Briley, Brother-in-law Don Briley and a great nephew Jacob Knipfer.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. Rev. Michelle Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. A general memorial fund has been established.
