James LeEdward Long, age 23, of South English, IA, died of injuries resulting from a one car accident near Deep River, IA on Monday, May 8, 2006. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, May 12, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Rev. David Hitch will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow at St. Patrick Little Creek Cemetery near Kinross. Visitation will be at James' parents home at 306 Clark St., South English, IA on Thursday May 11, 2006, from Noon until 8 PM with a wake service at 7:00 PM. James LeEdward Long was born on May 29, 1982 in Iowa City, IA, a son of James Walter and Mary Jean Patterson Long. He grew up and lived all of his life in the South English community. James graduated from English Valleys High School in 2001.He joined the Iowa National Guard 3654th Maintenance Co. (Oskaloosa) in December 1999. James was united in marriage to Samantha Margaret Thurman in Sigourney on January 22, 2002. They made their home in South English. James enjoyed his family and children, hunting, and working on vehicles. He especially enjoyed going to demolition derbies as a member of the "My Obsession" team. He is survived by his wife Samantha Long of South English; daughter Anna Marie and son Austin Dean Steven at home; his parents James and Mary Long of South English; two sisters Jennifer Garringer (Jody) of Williamsburg, IA; Mary Alice Long of Center Point, IA; 3 brothers: Dennis A. Long (Megan) of Williamsburg, IA; Anthony J. Long of South English, IA; Joseph W. Long of South English, IA; grandmothers Mary Joan Long of South English, IA and Alice R. Patterson of Keota, IA. He was preceded in death by a brother Steven J. Long and grandfathers Lyle Lee Long and Homer E. Patterson.
