SIGOURNEY-James Grove, Sr., age 86, of Sigourney, died Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Sigourney Care Center. James was born September 6, 1926, in South English, Iowa, to Homer and Dorothy (Miller) Grove and graduated from South English High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. James was united in marriage to Shirley Utterback. To this union they were blessed with four children: Jim, Lyle, Shirley and Larry. The couple later divorced. James was a life long farmer retiring in 1992. He enjoyed having coffee with the guys, going to his daughter's on Friday night for supper with the grandchildren, going out to eat, Old Threshers, driving around and working on the farm. Survivors include two sons: James, Jr. of Des Moines and Lyle of Ankeny; a daughter: Shirley Ann (Dan) Kelderman of Oskaloosa; 3 grandchildren: Chelsie, Abby and Caleb Kelderman; a brother: Charles Grove of South English and a sister: Phyllis James of Ft. Worth, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son: Larry Grove. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Memorials are for Keokuk County Hospice.
