Williamsburg- James “Jim” Carl Garringer was born July 4, 1936 in Parnell, Iowa, the son of Carl and Esta (Brown) Garringer. Jim was united in marriage to Jeanne Kleinmeyer on June 25, 1955 in Williamsburg. He has worked as a milk truck driver, he drove for Hummer Trucking, worked at Iowa County Road Department and in 1974 went to work at the County Home (Hillside Estates). He enjoyed playing cards, gambling, any Hawkeye Sports and he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren in their activities. Jim died on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the English Valley Care Center in North English, at the age of 85 years.
Jim is survived by his wife Jeanne of North English; five children, Dan (Laurie) Garringer of West Des Moines, Ed Garringer of Williamsburg, Becky (Dan) Berstler of Marengo, Nancy (Gary) Van Patten of What Cheer and Ron (Deb) Garringer of Williamsburg; 30 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Van Dee of Vining and a sister-in-law, Darlyn Garringer of Williamsburg. He was preceded by his parents and six brothers Keith, Ralph, Vernon, Bill and Orville Garringer and Howard Brown and a daughter-in-law Debra Garringer.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 21 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Yankee Point Cemetery near Parnell. Visitation will be on Monday, from 4-7 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the English Valley Care Center or Essence of Life Hospice.
