North English- James Garfield Brown Jr., was born February 3, 1925, in Norway, Iowa, the son of James G and Gertrude (Amerine) Brown. He graduated from high school in Tiffin, Iowa, in 1942 and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He entered into the US Navy on January 18, 1944, serving in WWII until February 22, 1946. James was united in marriage to E. Jean Bowers, they later divorced. On November 18, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Benyshek Hoffman in Memphis, MO. He was an electrical engineer and he owned and operated Jim Brown TV Repair Shop. He has resided in Coralville, Iowa, he moved to South Texas in 1977 and moved back to Iowa in 2005. He was a member of the American Legion Post #721 of Coralville. He enjoyed building houses and wiring them, he also enjoyed fishing and being around the water. James died on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the English Valley Care Center, in North English after an extended illness, at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann of North English; a son Mark S. Brown of Coralville and a step-son Darrell L. Hoffman of Bruce, WI; and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate.
