James Anderson

James Anderson, 78, of Stockport, IA, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at his home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24th from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. There will be no formal services. The burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zoe Anderson Education Fund. Born August 19, 1935, in rural Stockport, IA, James Wendell was the son of Milo Henry and Mary Francis (Campbell) Anderson. He received his early education at the Hickory Grove School and later graduated from Stockport High School in 1953. On May 21, 1955, he married Janice Niece in Hillsboro, IA. The couple later divorced. James farmed throughout his life. In the early years, he was engaged in logging and drove a milk truck. For over 33 years, he was employed at GE in Burlington. James was an extremely active individual. He was a volunteer fireman for the Hillsboro Fire Department. He loved motorcycling and entered drag races in Keokuk and Eddyville. He thoroughly enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, water skiing, mowing grass for a number of places and flying airplanes. James was an avid NASCAR fan and followed the races every weekend. He was also an auction enthusiast and a fan of Judge Judy. Survivors include three daughters; Lynette (Jerry) Sutter of Stockport, IA, Kim Anderson of Hillsboro, IA and Zoe Anderson of Stockport, IA; three sons, Chris (Donna) Anderson of Arvada, CO, Kevin Anderson of Lakewood, CO and Milo (Lois) Anderson of Union, MO; a very special companion, Betty Wallace of Stockport, IA; a brother, Robert (Patty) Anderson of Stockport, IA; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a daughter of the heart, Marcelina Stephenson of Texas. James was preceded in death by his parents and by an infant brother, William Anderson.
