Jake Day, 94 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, September 17, 2006, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 19, 2006,at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia with the Rev. David Cline officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to Moravia Fall Festival and the Friends of Conservation in Henry County. Born September 3, 1912, in Ash Grove, IA, Jacob Paul was the son of James T. and Lila May Allbright Day. He was a graduate of Moravia High School. On March 3, 1940, he married Bette Hiatt in Unionville, MO. The couple later divorced. On March 4, 1972, Jake married Edith Alma Timmerman Barnes in Mt. Pleasant. Jake lived in Donnellson for eight years, prior to moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1968, where he has resided ever since. He worked for several years for Con Tel in the maintenance department. He retired from service there in 1977. An avid bird watcher, Jake was an all around nature lover. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and was a rock hound. After retiring he enjoyed woodworking and photography. Survivors include his wife Edith of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one son, Jim Day and his wife Paulette of Norwalk, IA; one daughter, Marsha A. Mitchell of Centerville, IA; one step-son, Allan Barnes and his wife Evy of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one step-daughter, Pamela Barnes of Lyons, CO; and a son-in-law, Jim Kearney of Des Moines, IA. Also surviving are eighteen grand-children and thirty five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carol Kearney; an infant son, Dennis Day; one step-daughter, Sheila Hall; two sisters, Marie Adams and Leila Veach; and six brothers, Ernie Day, Bill Day, Obie Day, Roscoe Day, Howard Day, and Russell Day.
