Jacob N. "Jake" Yoder was born July 3, 1951 in rural Kalona, Iowa, the son of Noah A. and Catherine (Miller) Yoder. He has lived in the Kalona community all of his life. He worked at the Kalona Sales Barn until 1994. He has since provided transportation for the local Amish community. He was a member of the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church. Jake died on Monday, May 11, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness at the age of 57 years. Jake is survived by a sister - Maryann Bremer and husband Robert of Iowa City; 2 brothers - Ezra Jay Yoder and wife Wilma of Goshen, Indiana; Joel N. Yoder and wife Cindy Stutzman of Denver, Colorado; 4 nieces; a nephew; 4 great nieces; 6 great nephews; and a step great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a great nephew. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church in Kalona. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church, Pleasantview Home and Washington County Hospice.
