Jackson Roe

MOUNT PLEASANT- Jackson Roe, 102, of Mount Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Addington Place of Mount Pleasant. He was a true and perfect gentleman in every way in how he lived his entire life.

Born November 1, 1921, in Anita, Iowa, he was the son of Glen and Anna (Wiegand) Roe. He graduated from Anita High School in 1939 and continued his education at the University of Iowa in the College of Dentistry earning his DDS in 1944, with an accelerated schedule because of WWII. He served his country for 16 months in the United States Navy in the South Pacific until 1946. Upon returning to Iowa, he earned his MS in Orthodontics in 1948. While a grad student, he met the love of his life, and following a three-month courtship, he married Nona Seberg in Iowa City on January 2, 1946. They celebrated 75 years together before her passing in 2021. He served a few years in private practice in Iowa City, IA, and Las Vegas, NV, followed by many years living and working in Los Altos Hills, CA. Upon his retirement, he taught for 2 years in Wursburg, Germany at Juliu Maximilious Universitat. Jack and Nona set up several programs in their name in the U of I College Dentistry dental education program. They were named Alumni of the Year in 2009. He and his wife loved to travel and took trips to Japan, China and Russia and toured Europe several times. Jack enjoyed gardening, golf, Iowa Hawkeye athletics and attending events at Hancher Auditorium. He was a member of Finley United Methodist Chapel.

Jack is survived by a niece Norma Rodgers of Mount Pleasant, two nephews Chuck Seberg of Iowa City, Chris (Karen) Seberg of New Brighton, Minnesota, and many great and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Gretchen Roe, nephew Doug Seberg, and nieces Mary Boal and Alice Hawbaker.

Memorials may be directed to Finley Cemetery, rural Mount Pleasant, or the University of Iowa Dental College Children’s Special Care Clinic.

Graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Anita Cemetery in Anita, Iowa. There will be no visitation. The Olson-Powell Chapel and Crematory is caring for Jack and his family. www.powellfuneralhomes.com
