Jackie J. Blum was born January 19, 1944 in Riverside, Iowa the daughter of Jack and Marjorie (Martin) Rickerd. Jackie's father died when she was very young and her mother later married Marion Blum who adopted her. She attended Mid-Prairie High School. Jackie has lived in the Wellman, Riverside and Kalona communities. She had a flower shop in Wellman and then had Riverside Flower Trek in Riverside for 12 years, she later worked at Casey's and JW's Foods in Kalona. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary unit 457, and was Chaplain of the VFW of the Auxiliary Post 6414. She enjoyed making floral arrangements for weddings, bird watching, spending time and traveling with family and friends, and volunteering her time for veterans. Jackie died on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Parkview Manor in Wellman from complications of lung cancer at the age of 68 years. Jackie is survived by a son Bob (Robin) Schulty of Wellman; two grandchildren Felicia and Spencer Schulty of Wellman; four brothers - Dan (Nancy) Rickerd of Lone Tree, Bill (Mickey) Blum of Crawfordsville; Bob (Sandy) Blum of Wellman, Terry (Danette) Blum of Wellman; a sister Nancy Baker of Woodbine; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack Rickerd, Marjorie and Marion Blum and a brother-in-law Dwight Baker. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Chaplain Donnita Payne-Hostetler will officiate. Burial will be in the Brethren Cemetery near South English. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice.
