Jack C. Lockridge died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, December 27, 2005, following a long illness at the age of 80 years. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30a.m.., Friday, December 29 at Powell Funeral Home in North English followed by military rites at the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Jack was born May 6, 1925 in North English, Iowa, the son of Kenneth "Jonie" and Hazel (Bair) Lockridge. He attended school in North English and graduated from North English High School in 1943. Jack served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He returned to his home town to work and married Doris Smith on August 6, 1948, in the Sigourney Methodist Church. They had three daughters Jackie (Jim) Wallace or Mt. Vernon, Sherry (Lynn) Moffit of North English, Susan (Greg) Miller of Iowa City. He is survived by his wife, Doris, three daughters, seven grandchildren, Joel and Jamie Wallace, Hunter Moffit and Megan (Moffit) Neumiller, and Melissa, Nicholas, and Casey Miller, one grad-granddaughter Kjerstin Neumiller, and one brother Jim Lockridge of North English. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ardy Lockridge and sister Phyllis Beezley. Jack worked as a cream hauler for the English Valley Co-op Creamery for 26 years, at Reed Oil Company, and at Amana Refrigeration until retirement. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion, a member of the VFW, and a volunteer fireman for many years. Jack was an accomplished archer and competed in many tournaments at the local, state, and national level. He enjoyed numerous hobbies that took him outdoors, including hunting, fishing, trapping, golf, hunting mushrooms, and gathering walnuts. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for several charities.
