Izola Evans, 96, of Mount Pleasant, IA, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant. Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 22nd, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Interment will be in the Mills Grove Cemetery in Central City, IA. A memorial has been established to Arbor Court. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born September 5, 1918 in Bagley, IA, she was the daughter of George Thomas and Grace Della Laura (Wiedman) Smith. She graduated from Bagley High School. In September of 1941, she married Jack Melbourne Evans. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1979. She lived most of her life in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Izola was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and never missed sending them a birthday card. For over 25 years, Izola worked as a bookkeeper at Life Investors. She was of the Christian faith and had been a member of the Church of Christ in Bagley, IA and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, IA. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, and had many bird feeders. She was a sports enthusiast and knowledgeable with many players, coaches and statistics of college football and basketball teams. Her favorite college team was the Iowa Hawkeyes, and her favorite MLB team was the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include three children, Gloria (Michael) Hertz of Madeira Beach, FL, Sue Hoffmeister of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and James (Connie) Evans of Hampton, IA; a daughter-in-law, Janyce Evans of Urbandale, IA; one sister, Geraldine Lawson of Thornton, CO; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and ten great great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a son, Jack Evans, Jr; one brother; and eight sisters.
