Marengo-Ivan D. Sperry was born November 10, 1914 in Blue Mound, Missouri, the son of Del and Mary Kephart Sperry. He worked for farmers in the Des Moines area and later for Jim Mathes of Ladora. Ivan was united in marriage to Geraldine Staelens on June 15, 1939 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. The couple moved to Cedar Rapids in 1942, where Ivan was a plant manager of Dows Dairy for over 20 years. They moved back to Williamsburg/Marengo area where Ivan farmed for 10 years before retiring. Ivan died Monday, August 29, 2005 at St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a lengthy illness at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 19 days. Ivan is survived by Geraldine his wife of 66 years; a daughter: Ardath (Keith) Davis of Marengo; two step grandchildren, four step grandchildren; two sister-in-laws: Mildred Sperry of Lisbon and Madeline Sperry of La Fayette Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Lena Williams and Cecil Sperry; seven brothers: Hollis, Lee, Clyde, Claude, Glen, Paul and an infant. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2005 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg where there will be a prayer service at 7:00p.m. A general memorial has be established.
