Irma Fye, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 23rd at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be at the Trinity Cemetery near Mt. Union. Memorials have been established to The Willows, Trinity Cemetery and First United Methodist Church. The daughter of Harvey E. and Pearl Jane (Gholson) Morrow, Irma was born on May 25, 1916, in Henrietta, MN. She graduated from New London High School. On August 23, 1934, she married Wm. Theodore Fye in Monmouth, IL. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1997. Prior to her marriage, Irma worked at the New London Telephone Company as a telephone operator. In 1960 she began working at the Mt. Pleasant Telephone office. Always a homemaker, Irma helped with the family farm and was an avid gardener. She and her husband retired from their Mt. Union farm and moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1970. Irma was very community minded and involved with many organizations. While living in Mt. Union she was a member of the Mt. Union Order of Eastern Star, Chapter "U" TTT and Nautilus Club. She supported her girls in many 4-H activities serving as a local club and a county wide leader. She had a deep love of music and played piano for the Trinity Methodist Church. After moving to Mt. Pleasant, Irma was involved in Founders' Chapter "A" TTT, Entre Nous, West Side Mothers Club, Sans Souci, Fortnightly Club and Tuesday Study Club. She was member of the First United Methodist Church and active with the UMW. Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Roland) Hatton of Cedar Rapids, IA and Joan Waganer of Pawnee, IL; a sister, Doris Byers of Newton, IA; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, Irma is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bette Ellison; a brother, Don Morrow; a son-in-law, Carroll Waganer; and twin infant granddaughters.
